Jerry D. Thomas is a highly experienced law enforcement professional and certified polygraph examiner with over 39 years of service in a large sheriff's office. Throughout his distinguished career he has developed extensive expertise in recruiting, background investigations, polygraph examinations, and advanced credibility assessment technologies.
As the owner of Thomas Polygraph Services LLC since 2007, Jerry has provided professional, accurate, and confidential polygraph and credibility assessment services to attorneys, law enforcement agencies, businesses, and private clients. He has conducted thousands of pre-employment examinations, criminal polygraphs, and investigative interviews, and has performed quality control reviews for attorneys, county prosecutors, and district attorney's offices.
During his tenure with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Conroe, Texas, Jerry served as Supervisor of Recruiting, Background Investigations, and Polygraph, while also supporting investigative and internal affairs functions. In this role, he led hiring processes, conducted extensive applicant screenings, and administered hundreds of criminal polygraph examinations for multiple agencies, including the Texas Rangers.
Jerry began polygraph training in 2005–2006 at the Texas Department of Public Safety Polygraph School (APA Accredited), studying under the mentorship of Mark Handler, a nationally recognized polygraph examiner, researcher, and editor of the APA's peer-reviewed journal Polygraph & Forensic Credibility Assessment since 2015, with over 60 published scientific articles to his name.
Jerry held a Texas polygraph examiner license from 2007 until the State of Texas deregulated polygraph licensing on September 1, 2021. Following deregulation, no state license is required to conduct polygraph examinations in Texas, and Jerry continues to conduct examinations there. Jerry is currently licensed in Louisiana.
He holds advanced training in countermeasure detection, post-conviction sex offender testing (PCSOT), and examinations for the Texas Board of Nursing. He has conducted hundreds of juvenile polygraph examinations since 2007, applying specialized protocols for working with minor subjects in legal, investigative, and supervision contexts. He is recognized as a pioneer in EyeDetect technology in Texas — among the first to implement it in the state and the first to use EyeDetect+ in a Texas criminal case.
In 2024, Jerry assisted in conducting a Basic Polygraph Examiner's Course in Kyiv, Ukraine in conjunction with the American Polygraph Association, International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, Axciton, the U.S. State Department, and International Security Advisors — reflecting his commitment to advancing the profession internationally.
